GIGAette Selected for Scale-up TIPS to Advance MW-Class Thermal Battery Demonstration

GIGAette secures KRW 2 billion in government R&D support over three years to demonstrate MW-class IsoTES® thermal batteries and advance industrial heat supply.

GIGAette Selected for Scale-up TIPS to Advance MW-Class Thermal Battery Demonstration

GIGAette, a thermal energy storage company, has been selected for the general track of Scale-up TIPS, a program run by Korea’s Ministry of SMEs and Startups. Following investment and a recommendation from Sunbo Angel Partners, GIGAette will pursue thermal battery demonstration and commercialization with KRW 2 billion in government R&D support over three years, from September 2026 to August 2029.

Bringing Isothermal Thermal Batteries to Industry

The selected project focuses on MW-class demonstration of isothermal thermal batteries and commercialization for industrial heat supply. Using its IsoTES® thermal energy storage technology, GIGAette plans to demonstrate large-scale thermal batteries that store variable industrial waste heat and deliver it at a consistent temperature when needed.

Thermal energy storage bridges the gap between when heat is available and when it is needed. Recovering, storing and reusing waste heat in industrial processes can help reduce fossil fuel consumption and carbon emissions.

Expanding Industrial Applications Through Demonstration

Through this project, GIGAette plans to validate rapid thermal charging and discharging and consistent-temperature heat delivery at the MW scale. The company will also develop the system for sustained operation in industrial settings. Research and demonstration will proceed in stages to build a foundation for commercial industrial heat supply.

Connecting Private Investment and Government R&D

Scale-up TIPS connects private investment in promising technology companies with government R&D support. Following its earlier selection for Deeptech TIPS, GIGAette will use the new program to advance both thermal energy storage development and industrial deployment.

GIGAette will continue its technology development and demonstration work to increase the value of industrial waste heat and support industrial decarbonization through reliable heat supply.
